Calypogeia arguta Notched Pouchwort

A small, dioicous leafy liverwort which grows on banks in woodland and heathland in calcifuge communities that include moss species such as Cephalozia bicuspidata, Dicranella heteromalla, Fissidens bryoides and Pseudotaxiphyllum elegans. The pale, transparent leaves with distinctive notches (more prominent than those of other Calypogeia species) give it a distinctive appearance. It is most common in the west of Britain and widespread throughout Wales. It is common in West Glamorgan. It is rarely found with sporophyte capsules.
