Mycena inclinata Clustered Bonnet

A common bonnet which grows in dense clusters on the dead wood of deciduous trees but also on living trees, particularly oak and sometimes beech. The bell shaped cap is greyish at first, becoming more brown with age, striate almost to the centre and scalloped along the edge where the cap cuticle overhangs the gills. The stalks become reddish or chrome yellow in older speciems. It usually has a distinct, somewhat rancid smell. It is widespread and frequent in deciduous woodland and wooded parks in West Glamorgan.
