Aponogeton distachyos Cape-pondweed

Cape Pondweed is an aquatic, rhizomatous perennial which is native to South Africa where it is cultivated for its edible flowers, buds and rhizomes. It was introduced to Britain and other parts of Europe as an ornamental aquatic and has become naturalised in ponds, lakes and canals. The forked inflorescence bears small, white, sweet-scented flowers which are pollinated by bees. It is uncommon in West Glamorgan but there is well-established population in Glyncorrwg Ponds.
