Briza maxima Greater Quaking-grass

A Mediterranean annual, widely grown in gardens throughout the world as an ornamental grass and is commonly used in floral arrangements.The large quaking-grass spikelets are almost unmistakable. Known in Britain since the early 17th Century, it was first recorded in the wild in 1859. It produces lots of seed which germinate quickly giving rise to large populations which are difficult to eradicate. Consequently it can become a nuissance in gardens and is frequently thrown out.  It is becoming increasingly common as a neophyte in West Glamorgan.
