Carex hirta Hairy Sedge

A common sedge of roadside verges, meadows, rough grassland and other grassy places. With its conspicuously hairy leaves and sheaths, it is difficult to confuse with any other British sedge. It is widely distributed and common in West Glamorgan, often forming quite dense swards in grassy verges among coarse grasses like False Oat-grass (Arrhenatherum elatius), Yorkshire Fog (Holcus lanatus) and Cock's-foot (Dactylis glomerata).
