Carex viridula Small-fruited Yellow-sedge

A small, fairly distinctive Yellow Sedge mostly of coastal habitats with fluctuating water regimes, such as dune slacks. It is largely a northern species which is most common and widespread in northwest Scotland and the west of Ireland but also with a scattered distribution in Wales and southern England. One of the most confusing things about this species (and other members of the Yellow Sedge complex) is the number of scientific names it has been given in recent years. The 4th edition of Stace's flora uses the name Carex viridula  but other names that have been used in recent years include Carex oederi. It is locally common in dune slacks in West Glamorgan.
