Crocosmia paniculata Aunt-Eliza

A tall, striking, red-flowered Montbretia with ribbed leaves that originates from South Africa, occasionally found as a garden throw-out or deliberately planted. It differs from Crocosmia masoniorum in its perianth (petal) lobes which are about as long as the perianth tube. Most plants grown in gardens are actually the hybrid between Crocosmia paniculata and Crocosmia pottsii and plants recorded in West Glamorgan are probably all referable to that taxon.
