Cham.
A common, annual or short-lived perennial garden plant with bright yellow flowers which is native to North America. It has been cultivated in Britain since the early 19th Century, largely as a half-hardy annual and was first recorded wild in 1864. It is widely distributed in southern Britain, but it is largely a lowland plant and is less common overall in Wales away from the southwest coast. It is usually found in ruderal sites, often not far from gardens, but it may be increasing as a result of introduction as seed in wild plant mixtures along roads. As a result of the current trends in climate warming it has been able to overwinter in some southern and western areas and persist for a few years. Most records in West Glamorgan are from urban areas such as Swansea.
