Osteospermum jucundum Cape Daisy

A very attractive and much loved garden perennial sub-shrub, native to South Africa. It is quite sensitive to frost so will not perennate for very long in parts of Britain with cold winters but is often quite long-lived in the milder parts of the southwest and south Wales. The inflorescences are often white but there are also very poipular pink and mauve forms available. Graden throw-outs can persist for several years in favourable sites and the prostrate, woody stems will root and give rise to sprawling clumps that increase in size each yaer. There are scattered records throughout Britain, but only one record from West Glamorgan. It may become more common in future as the climate becomes warmer.
