Ranunculus penicillatus subsp. penicillatus

A perennial water-crowfoot with long, submerged capillary leaves which grows in swiftly running water, such as streams and rivers. Some plants have both floating laminar leves and submerged capillary leaves. It is difficult to distinguish from Ranunculus penicillatus ssp. pseudofluitans and there is clearly some morphological overlap between the two. The leaves of Ranunculus penicillatus ssp. penicillartus tend to be smaller and the capillary leaves are shorter and more rigid. There are been few reliable records of this subspecies in recent decades an its precise status and distribution in West Glamorgan is unclear.
