Symphytum orientale White Comfrey

A distinctive white-flowered, clump-forming, perennial comfrey with tubular, white flowers. It was introduced from Russia as a garden plant in 1752 and was first recorded wild in Britain in 1849. It was one commonly cultivated in gardens but its tendency to become weedy and invasive has made it less favourable. It has become naturalised widely in southern England as a garden escape and is expanding its range in the British Flora. However it is still rather scarce in much of Wales, Ireland and the north. At present there are few records in West Glamorgan.
