Veronica agrestis Green Field-speedwell

Rhwyddlwyn Gorweddog

Linnaeus

An annual speedwell which grows as a weed in arable fields, gardens and allotments and also on pavements and other, disturbed urban waste places. It can be confused with Common Field-speedwell (Veronica persica) but it has slightly smaller flowers that are usually pale blue or white and which produce rounded fruits covered with long glandular hairs that do not diverge. It is widespread in much of Britain but rather scarce in many parts and becoming scarcer, like many other arable weeds. It is thinly scattered and uncommon overall in West Glamorgan, with populations in arable habitats on Gower and mostly present as a garden weed and pavemnet plant elsewhere.
