Veronica chamaedrys Germander Speedwell

A perennial speedwell of open woodland, hedgebanks, grasslands and verges, scree and waste ground. It is stoniferous and spreads vegetatively, sometimes covering large areas of ground and it is very attractive when it has its showy, azure-blue flowers. Seed production is rare. It can be confused with Wood Speedwell (Veronica montana) but differs from it in its stems that have two, conspicuous rows of hairs along them. It is a very common plant in Britain and Ireland with an ubiquitous distribution and it is widespread in West Glamorgan, particularly in the lowlands, but scarcer in the conferised areas of the South Wales Coalfield.
