L.
A prostrate, hairy, annual speedwell which is found in lots of different habitats including woodland edges and tracks, hedgebanks, roadside verges, cultivated land, urban areas and waste places. The small, pale lilac or pale blue flowers appear in spring and seed production is usually prolific. There are two subspecies in the British Flora, Veronica hederifolia ssp. hederifolia and Veronica hederifolia ssp. lucorum. Subspecies hederifolia is usuallly found in weedy, cultivated and waste places and is probably an archaeophyte. Subspecies lucorum is common in shady places such as at the edges of woodland and in hedgebanks and may be native. Both are present in West Glamorgan and have been recorded widely but many records do not distinguish between them; see separate accounts.
Archaeophyte (ssp. hederifolia) and possibly native (ssp. lucorum)
