Blasia pusilla Common Kettlewort

A locally abundant thallose liverwort in Britain found on damp tracks, banks, roadsides and waste ground. It is dioicous and capsules are occasional. It is unmistakable when the tranlucent thalli produces their long-spouted gemma flasks, somewhat like kettles, with star-shaped gemmae. It is rather scarce and unpredictable in West Glamorgan, usually found near water courses such as canals, streams and gullies, e.g in gravelly soil next to drainage ditches along forest roads. Populations rarely persist in one place for long.
