Amanita porphyria - © Charles Hipkin
Alb. & Schwein.
An uncommon species with a grey-brown cap usually with purple or violet tints which are sometimes rather faint. The stem is bulbous and has a flared, skirt-like ring. It occurs in broadleaved and coniferous woodland but most records in West Glamorgan are from Neath Port talbot where it is occasionally found in forests of Norway Spruce (Picea abies) and Sitka Spruce (Picea sitchensis).
