Cortinarius mucifluoides

Similar to some other webcaps which have conical, ochre-brwon caps and violaceous flushing, such as Cortinarius elatior and like that species often found under Beech. The somewhat slimy stem is usually flushed with violet, particularly below the veil which is quite obvious in young speciemns. Spores are smaller (11-13 x 6.5-7.5 microns) than those of Cortinarius elatior (12-15 x 7.5-9.5 microns). There are few records in West Glamorgan where it is probably under recorded and confused with similar species.
