Russula caerulea Humpback Brittlegill

A distinctive brittlegill which grows with Pine. The violet (often brownish or bownish-violet) cap is usually depressed in the centre which is darker and has a pronounced, acute umbo - hence the 'humped back' reference in its common name. It is an occasional species in the pine forests of West Glamorgan, e.g. Whiteford Pine Forest, but much less common than Primrose Brittlegill (Russula sardonia).
