Stereocaulon evolutum Foam Lichen

Graewe

Forms fairly tightly packed white domes with a dense cover of flattish scales, not cylindrical like those of the more common Stereocaulon dactylophyllum. Also, unlike that species, Stereocaulon evolutum rarely produces apothecia. It grows on bare, siliceous rocks in the uplands but there are few records of it in West Glamorgan.
