Berberis julianae Chinese Barberry

A spiny, evergreen shrub, native to China, which grows up to 3 metres tall bearing sharply-toothed, narrowly-elliptical, pointed leaves and yellow flowers. It is widely planted in parks and gardens especially for hedging. It was introduced in 1900 and first recorded wild in Britain in1970, in Kent. It is widespread but rather local as a wild plant in Britain where it grows along roads,railways, paths, the banks of water courses and on walls. It is uncommon in Wales and it is rarely recorded in West Glamorgan.
