Carex oshimensis Japanese Sedge

A distinctive sedge, which is native to Japan, with yellow-striped foliage and attractive inflorescenses of female spikes. It has become popular in gardens and in amenity plantings, especially as the cultivar named 'Evergold', forming clumps about 30cm tall.  There is little information on its occurrence as a naturalised, wild species in Britain and it has not been recorded yet as a wild plant in West Glamorgan. It appears to set good seed in cultivation and its occurrence as a neophyte in our flora is possible in the future. It is not included in New Flora of the British Isles.
