Cornus alba White Dogwood

A shrub which is very similar to Cornus sericea and perhaps not a separate species. It differs in its leaves which are rounded at the base with acuminate tips and the white beriies which have a stone that is flattened and longer than wide. The two taxa are frequently confused with each other and their distribution in West Glamorgan may be better represented in a combined map. Both are extensively planted along roads and in shrubberies on industrial estates. Large, invasive stands can occur as a result of extensive suckering.
