Cotoneaster simonsii Himalayan Cotoneaster

A deciduous shrub up to 4m tall, native to India, with stiff erect branches and elliptical leaves that are shiny dark green on the upper surface and with adpressed hairs on the lower surface, at least at first. It is one of the most common, naturalised cotoneasters in West Glamorgan and a serious non-native invasive species in some places. It flowers profusely and produces lots of fruit which is attractive to frugiverous birds such as thrushes and waxwing. It is tetraploid (2n=68) and apomictic.
