Erodium moschatum Musk Stork's-bill

A Mediterranean-Atlantic annual (sometimes biennial) in the south and west of Britain usually on bare ground near the coast. It is often larger than Common Stork's-bill (Erodium cicutarium) with 1-pinnate leaves and athough it is widespread within its range, it is much less common than it. The flowers are mauve or a rich pink colour and clustered together in a glandular inflorescence. When crushed the leaves have a distinct musky smell, hence its common name. In West Glamorgan it is an occasional species in Gower, particularly on the south Gower cliffs, but is rare further east and absent from Neath Port Talbot.
