Escallonia rubra Escallonia

An attractive, evergreen, red-flowered shrub that is often planted in coastal areas along roads and in retail parks. Sometimes a relic of cultivation but it also appears to be naturalising and spreading in southwestern Britain and Ireland where it is usually represented as Escallonia rubra var. macrantha.
