Euphorbia stricta Upright Spurge

An attractive, annual or biennial spurge which is rather slight in build but often branched and bushy. It grows along tracks, often at the edges of woodland and prefers calcareous or gravelly soils. Its seeds remain viable for a long time in the soil and long-buried seeds will germinate after soil disturbance. It is a Southern-temperate species which is regarded as a neophyte in Britain and Ireland. It is very rare in South Wales and it is presumed to be a garden escape in West Glamorgan.
