Thuill.
A densely tufted, blue-green grass with stiff, narrow leaves, which doesn't have rhizomes. It is a rare native species of dry, often rabbit-grazed habitats such as heathland, sandy soils and maritime cliffs, almost entirely in England, e.g. Breckland. It is similar to and often confused with Hard Fescue (Festuca brevipila), which has been introduced widely in Britain in turf grass. There are no plausible records of it in Wales and records from West Glamorgan are probably errors.
