Geranium rotundifolium Round-leaved Crane's-bill

An annual cranesbill with rounded or semicircular, shallowly lobed leaves and small pink flowers which are not notched. It can be rather untidy-looking but often quite bushy. It grows on roadside banks, in waste places, along railway lines and in hedges where it is fairly shade tolerant. Until about 50 years ago it was mainly a lowland species of the south and east of Britain but it has extended its range westwards and northwards in recent decades. While this may be due to natural range expansion some people regard its recent spread to be the result of alien introduction. It is absent from most of Wales and only recorded at present from lowland, coastal location along the south and north coasts. It is fairly local in Glamorgan and most common in West Glamorgan, particularly along the coast of Swansea Bay.
