Hieracium umbellatum

A tall hawkweed with relatively narrow, toothed leaves which have scabrid, incurved margins. The characteristic, umbellate inflorescences have hairless involucral bracts (phyllaries) which are distinctly recurved. Although it is variable and a number of varieties have been described, it is, nevertheless, quite recognisble in the field; Hieracium umbellatum ssp. umbellatum var. umbellatum is the most common taxon in this group. It has a scattered distribution in West Glamorgan where it grows in heathland, unimproved mesotrophic grassland and in fixed dune grassland.
