A small, short-lived, prostrate perennial with elliptical leaves and small, starry yellow flowers that close-up in the afternoon. It is a plant of well-drained, open heathy areas, paths, tracks and woodland edges. It is widespread in Briatin but often rather local. It is found throughout Wales and has a scattered distribution in West Glamorgan, especially on the acidic soils of the South Wales Coalfield. It is a frequent member of the flora that occurs along roads and tracks in the conifer plantations of Neath Port Talbot..
