Hypericum montanum Pale St John's-wort

An upright, little-branched St John's-wort with pale yellow flowers, round stems (no ridges) and relatively broad leaves that are slightly hairy. It is a calcicole which is virtually confined to habitats on chalk and limestone in Britain, but absent from Ireland, and often found growing in partially-shaded habitats, e.g. along the edges of woodland and scrub. It is uncommon and local in south Wales and the only reliable records in West Glamorgan are from south Gower. Records from habitats outside Gower, in the South Wales Coalfield, are almost certainly errors.
