Kickxia elatine Sharp-leaved Fluellen

A more or less procumbent, hairy annual weed of arable fields and other disturbed habitats usually on light, calcareous soils. It is similar to Round-leaved Fluellen (Kickxia spuria) and sometimes grows with it, often in fields where cereals have been cultivated. The colouful flowers are yellow and violet with a straight spur and halbert-shaped leaves. It has a southern distribution in Britain and an exclusively lowland distribution in Wales. It is not common in West Glamorgan where it is almost entirely confined to arable fields in Gower.
