Kickxia spuria Round-leaved Fluellen

Llysiau Llywelyn

(Linnaeus) Dumort.

A hairy, annual weed of calcareous arable field which is similar to Sharp-leaved Fluellen (Kickxia elatine) but a little larger, more softly hairy and with oval or round leaves and yellow and maroon flowers with a curved spur. It is also much less common in Britain with a more southeastern distribution. It is rare in Wales with most populations in the southeast. It is very scarce in West Glamorgan with a handful of records from arable fields in south Gower but very few in recent years.
