Linum bienne Pale Flax

A slender plant that produces lots of narrow, linear leaves distributed along its rather thin stem and attractive pale blue flowers in spring and early summer, which tend to close in the afternoon or in dull weather. It grows in warm, well-drained often south-facing sites, favouring base-rich soils such as grassy sea cliffs, roadside verges, tracks, railways and other skeletal or open mosaic habitats. It belongs to the Mediterranean-Atlantic element of the British Flora and has a southern distribution in Britain where it is most common in coastal areas. It is absent from much of  Wales but locally common in coastal parts of south and north Wales. It has a scattered and mostly coastal distribution in West Glamorgan but occurs inland occasionally on coal tips and in reclaimed habitats previously used for opencast mining,
