Matricaria chamomilla Scented Mayweed

A small, annual mayweed with distictly reflexed ray florets (at maturity) and a hollow, conical receptacle (see photo). Although it is more aromatically scented than Scentless Mayweed (Tripleurospermum inodorum) the scent is not always very strong. It is predominantly a weed of cultivated fields but it also occurs sporadicaly as a weed in amenity plantings, roadsides and waste places in general. Like many other arable weeds it has decreased significantly in recent decades. It has a scattered distribution in West Glamorgan.

Until recently it was better known as Matricaria recutita L.
