Polypogon monspeliensis Annual Beard-grass

An attractive annual grass which is native in coastal habitats such as ditches, brackish habitats and the upper saltmarsh, particularly in south-eastern England.. But it also occurs on bare, waste ground in urban areas and docklands and it has been spreading inland and westwards significantly in these habitats in recent years, much of which may originate from birdseed and grass-seed. It has a rather sparse, scattered distribution in West Glamorgan at the moment but new records from new sites are made every year, so we expect it to become more widespread and common in future.
