Ranunculus hederaceus Ivy-leaved Crowfoot

A procumbent, annual or perennial water-crowfoot which has laminar leaves but doesn't have submerged, capillary leaves. The leaves are usually dull-green with basal lobes that are wide at thier base and usually with a distinctive, wide sinus. The flowers are relatively small and do not have refexed sepals. It is most common on wet mud in areas poached by cattle, or in areas around gate, paths and ditches. It can be confused with Round-leaved Water-crowfoot (Ranunculus omiophyllus) which has larger flowers, reflexed sepals and more glossy leaves whose basal lobes are more narrow at their base and usually with a narrow sinus. It has a rather western and northern distribution in Britain and it is found throughout Wales. It is scattered but rather local in West Glamorgan.
