Ranunculus peltatus Pond Water-crowfoot

A perennial water-crowfoot with both floating, laminar leaves and submerged, capillary leaves, but occasionally with only capillary leaves. The flowers are relatively large and showy, each petal with a distinctive, pear-shaped nectary at the base. It occurs in ponds, lakes and canals perhaps preferring acidic water and it is tolerant of moderate eutrophication. It is found throughout much of Britain and Ireland, mostly in lowland areas, but it is local in West Glamorgan and generally uncommon, with most records from Gower. It hybridises with a number of other water-crowfoots but the occurrence and status of hybrids in West Glamorgan is not clear.
