Trifolium arvense Hare's-foot Clover

An annual clover of open snady or gravelly, skeletal habitats, railway banks, 'set-aside' fields and sand dunes. It sometimes included in wild seed mixtures. Softly hairy with clusters of small pinkish-white flowers that have long, bristly sepal teeth, it is an attractive, distinctive species known to many people. It is fairly common in much of lowland, southern Britain but largely coastal in Wales. Found all along the coast of Swansea Bay but, interestingly, less commonly in Gower. Some large populations are sometimes found well inland in open, disturbed habitats.
