Didymodon luridus Dusky Beard-moss

Hornsch. ex Spreng.

A dark-green, dioicous, acrocarpous moss which forms fairly compact tufts on base-rich rock, stone and walls. The broad, concave leaves which narrow fairly abruptly to a blunt point have recurved margins and a broad nerve. It is a Suboceanic Mediterranean-Atlantic species which is most common in the south of Britain. It is absent from much of mid and north Wales and scattered in West Glamorgan where it is most common along the south Gower coast. Sporophyte capsules are very rare.
