Inocybe phaeodisca

A rare fibrecap of southern Britain usually associated with deciduous trees. The cap , which is 10-30mm in diameter, has a dark brown centre with a prominent, pointed umbo and grades into a paler buff-colour towards the margin giving it a striking two-tone pattern. The stem is distinctly pruinose below the gills. Very rare in West Glamorgan with only one record from a bank at the edge of a beech/oak woodland in Resolven (see photo). This population consisted of small, slender fruiting bodies with large spores (10-12 x 5-6 microns), could be assigned to Inocybe phaeodisca var. geophylloides.
