Clinopodium ascendens Common Calamint

A hairy, mint-scented rhizomatous perennial labiate with pale, pink flowers, which has a rather local southern distribution in Britain. It is a plant of dry, grassy, calcareous soils, sunny hedgerows and open mosaic habitats. It is sometimes grown in gardens and may occur occasionally as a relic of cultivation. It is uncommon in Wales and rather scarce in West Glamorgan with a  few records from coastal localities. Where it does occur it is usually long-lived.
