Hypericum hirsutum Hairy St John's-wort

A conspicuously hairy, herbaceous perennial St John's-wort which grows in well-drained soils which are neutral or basic, often in habitats that are partially shaded on roadsides, verges and grassy banks. Although common and widespread in most of Britain it is uncommon or rare in much of Wales and Ireland. The Flora of Glamorgan (1994) described it as common in the Vale of Glamorgan but much more scarce and local further west in the county. It has become more common in West Glamorgan in the last 30 years and although it is still uncommon it appears to be expanding its range slowly. Small, but stable populations occur along forest roads in the conifer plantations of Neath Port Talbot.
