Hypericum pulchrum Slender St John's-wort

A slender, hairless St John's-wort, up to 40 cm tall, with small leaves that clasp the round stems (no ridges). It is a perennial of dry, mostly acidic habitats such as heathland and heathy banks as well as on leached soils on coastal cliffs and sand dunes. Although it is widespread in Britain it has become rare in many areas, particularly in eastern England. It is found throughout Wales and it is widespread in suitable non-calcareous habitats in West Glamorgan, including sites capped with the more acidic Quaternary sediments (upper loam and boulder clays) on the south Gower cliffs, leached soils on sand dunes and on heathy banks along forest roads in conifer plantations.
