Symphytum tuberosum Tuberous Comfrey

A yellow-flowered comfrey which spreads by tuberous rhizomes to form extensive, dense colonies at the edges of woodland, in scrub and also in wet places along strteams and rivers and in ditches. It has a scattered distribution in Britain but is most common in Scotland where it was first found in the wild in 1765 in Midlothian. In its native range it is largely a species of western, central and southern Europe. In West Glamorgan most records have come from south Gower with a few records also in the Vale of Neath.
