Usnea cornuta Inflated Beard Lichen

Probaby the most common beard lichen in West Glamorgan where it is widespread in the uplands, particularly on larch but also on willow and other trees. Its predominantly right-angled branching give it a spiky appearance and unlike Usnea subfloridana the holdfast at the base of the main stem, at the point of attachment, is not blackened. It is almost certainly under recorded in the county.
