Cotoneaster dammeri Bearberry Cotoneaster

 A native of central China which was introduced to Britain in 1900. It has a ground-hugging, procumbent growth form which allows it to cover bare areas on roadsides, open mosaic habitats, tarmac, hard standings and railway banks very quickly. The oval glossy green leaves, which are up to 2cm long are larger than those of Cotoneaster integrifolius and Cotoneaster horrizontalis and have prominent net-veining and slightly inrolled margins. There are a few scattered records in West Glamorgan but it is probably under recorded. It is a diploid (2n=34) outbreeding species.
