Cotoneaster dielsianus Diels' Cotoneaster

A native of China which has been cultivated in Britain since 1900. There are lots of scattered records throughout Britain, including south Wales and West Glamorgan. It has an erect arching growth form, similar to Cotoneaster franchetii, with which it is easily confused, but unlike that species it is deciduous. The berries usually contain 4 seeds, unlike the berries of Vilmorin's Cotoneaster (Cotoneaster vilmorinianus), which have 2 or 3 seeds It is found in waste places, open mosaic habitats, roadsides, railway banks and walls. It is a teraploid (2n=68), apomictic species.
