Erodium maritimum Sea Stork's-bill

A small, hairy, prostrate annual which produces a small rosette of oval leaves which are toothed but are not (or hardly) pinnately divided like those of the other stork's-bills. The inconspicuous flowers sometimes have pink petals but the flowers on many plants lack petals altogether. It is a suboceanic species with a coastal distribution in Britain (rarely found inland), mostly in the west, where it grows in bare often trampled places on sea cliffs, walls and other disturbed areas in maritime locations including gull colonies. In West Glamorgan, it is frequent along the south Gower coast but absent further east in the county (records elsewhere are probably errors).
