Filipendula ulmaria Meadowsweet

A common, perennial herb of wet or marshy places often found in fens, marshy grasslands and as a component of the emergent, tall-herb community at the edges of water courses. It is also found at the dges of woodland and in damp, montane habitats. The shoots have pinnately-divided leaves, grows up to 1m or more tall and produce foamy clusters of small, fragrant creamy-white flowers in summer. It is found throughout Briatin and is very common in West Glamorgan. It contains a wide variety of interesting secondary metabolites such as tannins, flavonoids and phenolic compounds. It is rich in salicylic acids and its derivatives,  which play an central role in its anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties.
